TO minimize your chances of becoming a pickpocket victim always remember to
Carry your purse under your arm.
Carry your money under your clothes or in a front pocket.
Never carry large amounts of cash. Leave what you don't need in your hotel safe
Do not leave your jacket or purse on the back of a chair.
Don't travel in narrow alleys or poorly lit streets.
Before leaving your hotel, ask if there are any parts of town to be avoided.
If you are bumped or distracted by a stranger, be aware that a pickpocket may be targeting you. Stay alert.
When possible, avoid having crowds of people surrounding you.
Do not leave your luggage unattended when paying the taxi driver or check-in at the hotel.
Be aware entering or leaving a public train or bus.
Sometimes pickpockets have an accomplice who will:
jostle you,
ask you for directions or the time,
point to something spilled on your clothing,
or distract you by creating a disturbance.
Beware of groups of vagrant children who create a distraction while picking your pocket.
Avoid showing off your expensive items
Store your money and valuables in multiple safe spots.
Place your items and cash between your pockets, hidden pouches, and bags.
